Visceral and Neural Manipulation
Visceral Manipulation is a very gentle and effective form of bodywork developed by Jean-Pierre Barral. I’ve studied all levels of Visceral Manipulation with teachers in the Barral lineage for over 15 years.
Visceral "adhesions" (scarring between the organs) can create problems in parts of the body located far from the adhesion site. This is because the viscera—the organs in your belly and those inside the ribcage—are held up by ligaments and separated from each other by fascia, which surround and connect everything in our bodies, including muscle, fat and bone.
The fascia, basically one large sheet, helps hold and allow movement and communication between parts of the body. When injured through infection or injury (including postural habits), it can’t do its job adequately and begins to pull on everything else, interrupting optimal communication.
Breathing should be a massage for all your organs, but if one part can’t move easily because of an adhesion, it will eventually limit free movement throughout the rest of the body.
I use a combination of Aston and Barral Visceral Manipulation to create deep releases that cannot be accessed through more superficial work.
IAHP Therapist Profile
Sometimes a primary physical restriction is located in the nervous system, not the musculo/fascial system or the visceral/fascial system. Our nerves should be able to slide smoothly inside their sleeves, which are called the "dura" when they are located around the brain and spinal cord—the central nervous system (CNS)—and "meninges" when they wrap around nerves outside the CNS (e.g., the nerves in your trunk, arms and legs).
The brain should also be able to float and be supported easily by its support structures. A fall or accident can create restrictions in the dura, meninges and cranial support structures. Neuromeningeal Manipulation can release these restrictions, creating improved communication, blood flow and ease of movement throughout the body.
I've studied all levels of Barral Neuro-Manipulation.

sense the most subtle and seemingly innocuous changes, but after she works her magic, shifts have taken place. Suddenly, you find you're standing straighter, moving with ease, breathing deeper."

...Thank you Valerie Lyon. You are at the top of the gift list from Tristan's journey and truly gave Tristan a chance at a comfortable pain free existence! You will be fondly known in our household as Tristan's "My Valerie" I can still hear his 2-3 year old voice from the back seat, on the drive home, saying "I miss my Valerie" over and over after each visit to your office. Not to mention the fact that he could eat food without pain and nausea/vomiting for weeks after each visit. To my friends out there that don't know Valerie, she is a gifted healer and one of her specialties is Visceral Manipulation (VM) and everyone I have ever referred to Valerie has come back feeling amazingly better. Her VM helps with all things tummy or gut related. So I am thankful for this picture this morning that took me to a fearful place this morning and then on this "re-framing" the stressful adventure with Tristan's digestive health into one of Thankfulness.
